- This is the second time that Taiwan Excellence is participating in Taiwan Expo’s India edition. What kind of response have you been receiving?
Ans: Last year was the first time that Taiwan Expo was held in India. The response received by the Taiwan Excellence pavilion was overwhelming which is the reason why TE decided to be back this year. Over the last couple of years, Taiwan has been aggressively focusing on strengthening trade ties with India. It has also been partnering in the Indian government’s initiatives like Digital India, Make in India, or smart cities mission. The relations between the two countries increased manifolds because of Taiwan utilising its formidable expertise in the smart solutions, ICT, pharma, IOT, agriculture, food, machineries and other fields. We hope to strengthen the ties further and participate in more and more such events. This year too, the response has been great. People are reacting very positively to all the products that are on display at the Taiwan Excellence pavilion.
- You started initially with a range of hi-tech gadgets that focused mainly on Taiwan’s strong ICT, gaming and IOT industry. But recently you have also included a host of other products from varied fields. What was the idea behind such diversification?
Ans: Taiwan has always had the robust policy of sharing our technical know-how. This is why several Taiwanese brands are going all out to showcase their innovative products and services in India. Over time, when we introduced products in fields other than ICT, gadget loving people gave us a great response and demanded more such products. So, now we also offer consumers smart products from various segments including lifestyle, healthcare, etc. that they would love and which would benefit them in several ways.
- You participated in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit for the first time this year in January. How was the experience? What kind of avenues did it open up for investment and trade relations between India and Taiwan?
Ans: India has emerged as a key investment destination in the last few years. Several companies from South Asian countries are actively investing in states like Gujarat in different sectors like chemicals, automobile and auto parts, steel processing etc.
Recently, Gujarat attracted almost $4,000 million investments in projects which are either commissioned or are under implementation from these countries. There is a huge influx of investments from countries like Japan, China, South Korea and now we are also a part of the race. Our state-of-the-art technology and innovation in various sectors will give a major boost to industries in states like Gujarat and help them grow at a faster pace. We are optimistic about contributing to the economic growth of the state.
Vibrant Gujarat led to a lot of MoUs being signed between Taiwanese and Indian companies.
- How do you think an event like Taiwan Expo will boost trade and relations between India and Taiwan?
Ans: The total trade between Taiwan and India was the highest in last five years in 2018. It had increased by 10.87 per cent compared to 2017. For two consecutive years, India was Taiwan’s 16th largest trading partner. Taiwan Expo aims to give a boost to improve these relations even further by promoting cooperation and exchanges between the two countries. It also aims to assist manufacturers to expand in various markets in India. Last year’s Taiwan Expo had attracted more than 18,000 visitors and had successfully showcased Taiwan’s diverse strengths in economics, trade, technology, culture and tourism. This year also, Taiwan Expo is contributing majorly in strengthening relations between India and Taiwan.
